Holy Week in Ispica

The 2025 edition of the Holy Week in Ispica took place from April 11 to 20, coinciding with the Jubilee Holy Year. The rites, animated by the archconfraternities of the Cavari of Santa Maria Maggiore and the Nunziatari of the SS. Annunziata, followed the usual cycle: from the last Friday of Lent with the "Santa Cascia" to Palm Sunday, up to the most awaited days of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, dedicated to the veneration of the statues of Christ scourged at the Column and Christ with the Cross. For the Jubilee, the Maundy Thursday tradition was enriched with an extraordinary variation, with the Christ at the Column in procession to the rock church of Santa Maria alla Cava. To crown the organization, a brochure with the unique program of the rites was presented, a sign of the desire to promote this intangible heritage of the Sicilian Region as a tourist destination. Easter Sunday closed the festivities with the 'Ncuontru between the Risen Christ and Mary.
