Edition 2025 — Holy Week Burgio

In 2025, the Holy Week in Burgio experienced its most intense days on Good Friday (April 4) and Easter Sunday (April 6). The four Passion processions, the Deposition to the chant of 'Occhi Mirate', the 'Ncontru between the Risen Christ and the Madonna, and the dances of San Vito and San Luca involved the entire community and numerous visitors from the Agrigento area.

The 2025 edition

In 2025, the entire community of Burgio once again gathered around its Easter traditions. Good Friday, April 4, opened with the meditation on the 'Seven Words' of Jesus on the cross, followed by four successive processions: the 'Littichedda dei Fratelli' carried by the confreres, the 'Littichedda dei Parrini' supported by the priests, and the procession of the main urn of the Dead Christ towards the Calvary, at the foot of the Saracen castle, where the Crucifixion was re-enacted.

In the evening, the Deposition of Christ was accompanied by the singing of 'Occhi Mirate' and the procession with the urn and the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows, preceded by the faithful with the 'paramiti'. To close, the carcucciuliata in the square with artichokes, potatoes, fried sardines, salt cod, and hard-boiled eggs.

Easter Sunday, April 6, saw the noon 'Ncontru between the Risen Christ and the Virgin Mary in Piazza Umberto I and, in the afternoon, the dances of the statues of San Vito and San Luca through the streets of the village, concluding late at night with the fireworks display.
