Edition 2025 — Holy Week in Gagliano

On Good Friday, April 18, 2025, Gagliano Castelferrato renewed its centuries-old Holy Week tradition. The Passion of Christ was relived through chants and silence, with the procession of the statues of the Ecce Homo, the Crucifix, Our Lady of Sorrows, and the Dead Christ through the streets of the Enna village, accompanied by the brotherhoods and ancient folk chants.

In 2025, the Good Friday procession in Gagliano Castelferrato took place on April 18. As documented by the local Sicilian press, the rite was repeated in an identical and evocative manner: the four statues of the Passion, carried on the shoulders of the brotherhoods in their tunics, crossed the historic center amidst the beat of the drum and the laments of the chants 'Cianci cianci Maria' and 'La Simana Santa'. Our Lady of Sorrows, with her ashen face, wrapped in a black mantle and pierced by a sword, closed the procession. The torchlight processions and the sorrowful silence once again involved the entire community of this village in the province of Enna, Sicily.
