Edition 2025 — The May of Pastena
How it went in 2025
In 2025, the calendar of the Holy Cross Festival in Pastena opened as always at dawn on April 30th with the Cutting of the May, continuing that same night, around 11:30 PM, with the Abbusso ceremony at the Festival Master's house. On May 1st, the trunk was cleaned, adorned with the bundle of broom and the wooden cross, and raised in the town square.
The edition had a strong memorial focus: on the evening of May 2nd, at 7:00 PM, a mass was celebrated in memory of Father Luigi Donati, parish priest of Pastena from 2014 to 2024, followed by the blessing of the cross erected at the municipal building in his honor.
The climax arrived on Saturday, May 3rd: at 10:30 AM, the solemn concelebrated mass and, immediately after, the procession with the relic of the Holy Cross and the statue of Saint Helena, presided over by Archbishop Luigi Vari of the Archdiocese of Gaeta. The celebration had been prepared by a nine-day novena, with priests from neighboring parishes leading the evening Eucharist.
