Historical Re-enactment of the World's First Nativity Scene (Greccio Living Nativity)

An expanded calendar

Between December 7, 2024, and January 6, 2025, Greccio offered one of the most packed editions of its re-enactment. Performances took place on the weekends of December — December 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, and 22 — and then on December 26, 27, 28, and 29, 2024, starting at 5:40 PM, in addition to the usual special performance on Christmas Eve, late in the evening. The calendar closed with performances on January 1, 4, 5, and 6, 2025.

Surrounding the re-enactment

As per tradition, the six living tableaux with performers in medieval costume were staged on the square below the Franciscan Sanctuary, at an altitude of over 700 meters. In the historic center, the Christmas market, visits to the International Nativity Scene Museum, and a program of cultural and musical initiatives took place, accompanying residents and visitors throughout the holiday period, confirming Greccio as one of the most visited Christmas destinations in Lazio.
