Historical Carnival of the Coumba Freida of Doues

The 2025 edition of the Doues carnival was part of the rich calendar of the historical carnivals of the Coumba Freida, which every year involves several municipalities between Valpelline and the Gran San Bernardo valley. In Doues, the Landzette — the colourful masks that evoke the passage of Napoleon's troops in 1800 — travelled through the hamlets of the municipality according to the usual sequence: departure of the group at dawn, visits to families, parades through the villages, and in the evening, the masked ball with the award ceremony for the patoille. The event, deeply communal, confirmed the vitality of one of the most characteristic traditions of the Aosta Valley Region, celebrated from generation to generation amidst colours, mirrors, and protective symbols.
