The Carnival of Castiglione

The Great Castiglione Carnival is one of the most colorful festivals in the Alto Mantovano. In Castiglione delle Stiviere, a city in the province of Mantua, Carnival has a tradition that dates back to the early twentieth century and still attracts thousands of people along the streets of the center, transformed for an afternoon into "a large open-air stage".

The parade of floats

The heart of the festival is the parade: floats and numerous masked groups on foot, from the provinces of Mantua and Brescia, start from Viale Boschetti and cross the streets of the historic center. The climax is in Piazza San Luigi, where the groups perform in front of the jury in the monumental heart of the city.

Prizes and jury

A jury evaluates creativity, originality of costumes, and effectiveness of choreography. Among the awards are those dedicated to Giacomo and Guido Stuani and the "Maria Luana Resmini" award for the best choreography, a sign of a festival that also preserves the memory of those who animated it.

In the Carnival of the Hills circuit

The event, promoted by the Municipality in collaboration with the Association Strada dei Vini e Sapori Mantovani, is part of the Carnival of the Hills circuit, which brings together the carnival parades of the municipalities in the hilly area between Mantua and Brescia. It is an event that focuses on local associations and popular creativity, in one of the symbolic cities of the Alto Mantovano.
