Edition 2025 — Good Friday Tuscania

On April 18, 2025, Tuscania celebrated Good Friday with its oldest rite: at dawn, at 5:00 AM, the departure of the companies from the sanctuary of the Addolorata for the visit to the altars of repose; in the evening, at 9:00 PM, the solemn procession in the historic center with barefoot penitents, crosses, chains, and the statue of the Madonna Addolorata carried on the shoulders by heralds.

Good Friday 2025 in Tuscania

The 2025 edition took place on Friday, April 18, in a day of deep emotional intensity experienced from dawn to night. At 5:00 AM, the brotherhood companies departed from the sanctuary of the Madonna Addolorata for the traditional visit to the altars of repose, a journey among the city's churches accompanied by songs and prayers.

In the evening, at 9:00 PM, the historic center hosted the solemn procession: the barefoot penitents of the ancient brotherhoods carried the symbols of the Passion — crosses and heavy chains whose clanking announces the death of Christ — followed by the pious women dressed in mourning and the statue of the Madonna Addolorata with the dead Christ at her feet, carried on the shoulders by dozens of heralds. The rite, handed down since 1845, confirms itself as one of the most heartfelt events of Holy Week in the Viterbo Tuscia.
