Good Friday Procession — Dead Christ and Our Lady of Sorrows

2025 Edition

On Good Friday 2025, April 18, the Ortigia procession was held according to the custom of odd-numbered years, under the direction of the Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception and departing from Piazza San Filippo, in Syracuse.

The procession of the Dead Christ and Our Lady of Sorrows traveled through the streets of the historic center—including Via della Giudecca, Via Roma, Piazza Duomo, Piazza Archimede, and Corso Matteotti—concluding with the traditional encounter between the Mother and her Son. In 2025 as well, the rite drew numerous faithful and visitors, accompanied by the characteristic sound of the troccole.
