Edition 2025 — Giubiana

The Giubiana is the ancient Brianza ritual of burning the witch, celebrated annually in Seregno at the end of January at Parco Madonna della Campagna. Amidst fire shows, risotto with luganega sausage, and the telling of the legend, the large effigy is burned to drive away the evils of the past and propitiate the new year.

The Giubiana of Seregno renews each year one of the most deeply rooted traditions of Brianza. At Parco Madonna della Campagna, on Via Cagnola, the community gathers around the bonfire of the witch: a large effigy that is set ablaze to symbolically free themselves from the evils of the past year and wish for a happy new year. The evening, organized by the Associazione Madonna della Campagna, features the traditional yellow risotto with luganega sausage, fire shows by street artists, and the telling of the legend, in an atmosphere that recalls the connection of the Province of Monza and Brianza with its peasant culture. A free event, much loved by families and children.
