The paralympic handbike caravan stops in Cesano Maderno
The Giro d'Italia Handbike, considered the most important European paralympic competition in the sector, makes a stop in the municipality of Cesano Maderno (Province of Monza and Brianza, Lombardy). The event, classified as UCI C.1, gathers international athletes who compete on handbikes, the special manual-powered bicycles used in paralympic cycling.
The Giro Handbike is divided into five stages spread across the peninsula, between Veneto, Lombardy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and Piedmont. Cesano Maderno is one of the two Lombardy stages of the circuit, chosen for its territorial characteristics and for a course that meets the technical requirements of the competitive event. Athletes compete for various classification jerseys: from the pink jersey for the general classification to those reserved for the fastest team, the best young rider, and other categories.
The Cesano stage is much more than a race: it's an opportunity to bring the values of paralympic sport, inclusion, and participation to the city. With the patronage of the Municipality of Cesano Maderno, the event attracts enthusiasts and curious onlookers along the route, transforming the city streets into a stage for the best of international paralympic cycling.
Handbiking is a discipline that requires power, technique, and extraordinary tenacity: athletes, many of whom have lower limb disabilities, pedal using only the strength of their arms, reaching surprising speeds. Witnessing the Giro caravan pass by means seeing a concentration of determination and sporting passion, but also grasping a broader message of inclusion and overcoming limits. For Cesano Maderno, hosting a stage of this international competition is a source of pride and a way to affirm, through sport, a culture of full participation for everyone.
