Giöbia — Burning of the Winter Old Woman

Giöbia 2025 revived the ancient ritual of burning the winter old woman in Busto Arsizio. As per tradition, the effigies made by the city's schools and associations were burned in a large communal bonfire, a symbol of rebirth and hope for the new year. The citizens gathered around the fire for the traditional risotto feast in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, with thousands of portions of risotto with luganiga sausage distributed for a symbolic contribution. The festival, accompanied by the effigy competition among educational institutions, reaffirmed the strong bond of the people of Busto Arsizio with one of their most beloved winter traditions.
