Free Extraordinary Openings of Nine Archaeological Sites Restored with PNRR - Caput Mundi

2025: The Year of Construction

Before the free extraordinary openings of 2026, 2025 was a year of fieldwork for the Capitoline Superintendency for Cultural Heritage. Funds from the PNRR allocated to the Caput Mundi line allowed for the continuation of restorations on monuments spread throughout the territory of the Municipality of Rome, in Lazio: from the Torrione Prenestino in Pigneto to the Mausoleum of Monte del Grano, from the Church of Sant'Urbano alla Caffarella to the archaeological area beneath Via delle Botteghe Oscure, and suburban sites like the Roman Villa of Tor de' Cenci.

These were interventions of very different natures—structural consolidations, conservative surface restorations, new lighting, safety measures, and the design of visitor routes—all united by the goal of making places previously closed or accessible only by request available to the public. It is from this work that the calendar of free openings with specialized guides was born the following year.
