Focara di San Lorenzo del Terremoto

The 2025 edition of the Focara di San Lorenzo del Terremoto was held in Lizzanello from January 16th to 19th. The triduum opened the festival with the rosary and vespers (January 16th), the blessing of domestic animals on the church square (January 17th, feast of Saint Anthony the Abbot), and a catechesis meeting on the history of the bonfire with testimonials on past traditions (January 18th).

On January 19th, the day of the Patronage of Saint Lawrence, Holy Mass was followed by a procession with the Scorrano marching band and the spectacular pyromusical lighting of the bonfire in the market square, with fireworks and a final DJ set. A moment of strong identity for the Salento community, in memory of the danger averted during the 19th-century earthquake.
