Edition 2025 — Sant'Egidio Festival

The 2025 edition of the Mompeo patronal feast took place on Monday, September 1st, the day dedicated to Sant'Egidio Abate and San Vincenzo Ferrer. The Sabina village renewed its traditional rites — the mazzetta procession, the vigil with the band, the blessed bread, and the procession — in a year also marked by Jubilee celebrations, which brought a new sacred play dedicated to the patron saint to the village.

Mompeo 2025

On September 1st, 2025, Mompeo, in the province of Rieti, celebrated its patrons Sant'Egidio Abate and San Vincenzo Ferrer as it does every year, with the sequence of rites that the community has repeated for generations: the mazzetta procession, the night vigil with the band, the morning wake-up call, the blessed bread, and the procession through the alleys of the historic center.

However, 2025 was a special year. On the occasion of the Holy Year, playwright Renato Giordano wrote and directed "The Legend of Sant'Egidio", a sacred play inspired by medieval texts on the saint's life, performed by a cast of established actors from Italian theater and cinema. The show, supported by the Municipality of Mompeo, the Lazio Region, and FUIS, was exceptionally repeated on December 7th, 2025, in the church of Santa Maria Santissima, with free admission, and is destined to return every year on the patron saint's day.
