Edition 2025 — Madonna di Pompei in Castro
From August 11 to 13, 2025, Castro Marina celebrated the Festival of the Madonna of the Holy Rosary of Pompei with three days of music, devotion, and performances. The heart of the festival was the sea procession on August 12: the statue carried on the shoulders of barefoot fishermen to the ancient port, then embarked amidst the glowing lampare along the bay, followed by fireworks over the sea. The program was completed by grand brass band concerts and local Salento roaming bands.
The 2025 program
The 2025 edition of the Festival of the Madonna of Pompei in Castro Marina took place from August 11 to 13, spread over three days of religious celebrations and musical events.
- Monday, August 11 — Brass band concerts in the square with the Gran Concerto Bandistico Città di Conversano (conductor Susanna Pescetti) and the Gran Concerto Bandistico L. Vinella – Città di Castellana (conductor Grazia Donateo).
- Tuesday, August 12 — The main day with the sea procession: the statue of the Madonna carried by fishermen to the port, Holy Mass, the release of hot air balloons, and illuminated boats in the bay. In the evening, the Concerto Bandistico Grande Orchestra del Salento – Città di Lecce, the roaming Stella Band through the village streets, and, from 10:30 PM, the Nessuna Pretesa Fashion Band. Around 10 PM, the grand fireworks display over the sea.
- Wednesday, August 13 — From 10 PM, the Barbablù Band with their rock-pyrotechnic show to close the festivities.
In 2025, the festival once again confirmed the strong bond between the fishing community and the Madonna of the Rosary, in a blend of faith, folklore, and the Salento coastal landscape.
