Saint Laviero, Patron Saint of Tito

In Tito, a village in the province of Potenza overlooking the Basento valley, the patronal feast is dedicated to Saint Laviero Martyr, a Christian soldier who, according to tradition, suffered martyrdom in the ancient Roman Grumentum in 312 AD. His figure has accompanied the religious and civil life of the Tese community for centuries, marking the calendar of the most important celebrations.

Three Events Throughout the Year

Devotion to Saint Laviero is articulated in several moments. July 26th commemorates the dedication of the new mother church, rebuilt after the 1980 earthquake and consecrated on this date. The major summer celebrations are concentrated in the first days of September, preceded by a solemn triduum of prayer and enlivened by a procession, concerts, and shows. Finally, November 17th is the liturgical commemoration of the saint's martyrdom.
