San Guniforte, a legendary patron saint

The Festa Patronale di San Guniforte is the most cherished event in Casatisma, a municipality in the Province of Pavia nestled in the Oltrepò Pavese. San Guniforte is celebrated every year on the fourth Sunday of August, and his figure carries with it one of the most curious legends of medieval tradition: according to a tale of French origin, behind the saint lies a greyhound, the animal of a noble lord, later "humanised" and venerated by the people over the centuries.

The 16th-century church

The heart of the festival is the Church of San Guniforte, a 16th-century architectural gem and the main point of interest in the village. Its imposing facade is adorned with six niches with statues, a large central window, and a monumental portal topped by a medallion depicting the patron saint himself. It is here that the religious celebrations of the occasion are concentrated.
