The patron saint's festival of Volpara, in the hills of Oltrepò
Volpara is one of the smallest and most picturesque villages in the Oltrepò Pavese, nestled in the hills of the Alta Valle Versa, in the province of Pavia. Here, Saints Cosma and Damian — the «anàrgiri» (penniless) physicians, venerated as protectors — are the village's patron saints, to whom the parish church is also dedicated.
The Festa Patronale is the time of year when the community gathers around the parish church and in the village streets. It is an event of popular and religious tradition, combining the celebration of the patron saints with the social life of the hillside village. The event is listed among the main events of the Unione dei Comuni Alta Valle Versa, of which Volpara is a part.
For visitors to the Oltrepò Pavese, the festival is also an opportunity to discover a land of vineyards and small villages, far from the most crowded circuits and tied to authentic rhythms and traditions.
For 2026, the Festa Patronale dei Santi Cosma e Damiano is listed among the main events of the Unione dei Comuni Alta Valle Versa, in the calendar for the village of Volpara. The festival is traditionally held on the last Sunday of August (in 2026, Sunday, August 30th) and celebrates the village's patron saints with religious services and community festivities.
The detailed program for Volpara's patron saint festival will be released locally closer to the date. The traditional structure includes a religious celebration in honour of Saints Cosma and Damian and community festivities around the parish church.
