Great drama at the Feronia Theatre in San Severino Marche
The Feronia Theatre is the main theatrical venue in San Severino Marche, an elegant town in the Province of Macerata, in the heart of the Marche region. Overlooking Piazza del Popolo, this Italian-style theatre has been the place where the San Severino community gathers for major drama productions for generations. Its theatre season, curated by I Teatri di Sanseverino together with the City of San Severino Marche and AMAT (Marche Association of Theatre Activities), with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Marche Region, is one of the most anticipated cultural events in the Marche hinterland.
Artistic Director Francesco Rapaccioni has dedicated the 2025/2026 program to the theme of crisis, reinterpreting it from the word's Greek etymology: not a negative concept, but a moment of transition requiring discernment, evaluation, choice, and decision-making in a context of change. Seven titles are included in the season ticket, ranging from classics to contemporary works, featuring well-known names and others to discover.
The season ticket also includes a film series at the nearby San Paolo Theatre. The I Teatri di Sanseverino program is complemented by other city events, such as the symphonic season of the FORM (Marche Philharmonic Orchestra) and contemporary circus performances, making San Severino Marche a small but vibrant cultural hub in the Macerata area.
Attending a performance at the Feronia means combining the pleasure of great theatre with the discovery of a medieval-rooted town, with its famous oval square, towers, and frescoed churches. An evening in San Severino Marche is the ideal opportunity to experience the most genuine Marche, far from the mass tourist circuits.
The 2025/2026 drama season of I Teatri di Sanseverino explored the theme of crisis, understood, according to Greek etymology, as a moment of transition and choice. The program opened on October 22, 2025, with Chekhov's Nervous Breakdown, directed by Peter Stein and starring Maddalena Crippa, and continued with Goldoni's La vedova scaltra (Caterina Murino), Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (Cesare Bocci and Vittoria Belvedere), La tigre (Alessandro Benvenuti and Marina Massironi), Sissi, the Empress (Federica Luna Vincenti), Shakespeare's Othello (Giorgio Pasotti and Giacomo Giorgio), and concluded on April 15, 2026, with Aristophanes' Lysistrata, starring Lella Costa.
