Feast of the Assumption

In 2025, the Feast of Saint Mary of the Assumption enlivened Altamura between August 13th and 16th, with the central moment occurring on the solemnity of August 15th. The festivities opened with the traditional triduum of preparation in the preceding days.

On the day of the Assumption, masses were held in the Cathedral in the morning, while in the evening, Archbishop Mons. Giovanni Ricchiuti presided over the solemn mass, followed by the grand procession which, starting at 7:00 PM, traversed the historic center, passing through Piazza Duomo, Corso Federico II di Svevia, Piazza della Resistenza, Via XX Settembre, Piazza Zanardelli, Via dei Mille, Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, and Corso Umberto I.

Alongside the religious dimension, popular festivities included brass band concerts, light displays, and the funfair set up in the city from August 13th to 16th. The organization was managed by the "S. Maria Assunta e S. Irene" Association together with the parishes and the Municipal Administration of Altamura.
