Feast of San Gerlando

The 2025 edition of the Feast of San Gerlando took place in a special year for Agrigento, as the Italian Capital of Culture and in the midst of the Jubilee Year. The central event was the return to worship of the silver urn containing the Patron Saint's relics, restored after the thefts suffered in the 1970s and 80s: the 17th-century casket was presented back to the faithful in the Cathedral on February 21st.

The solemn pontifical mass on February 25th was presided over by Cardinal Baldassare Reina, with the traditional offering of oil for the Saint's lamp and the participation of the Archdiocese's confraternities. The celebrations confirmed the strong bond between the Agrigento community and its Norman bishop, a foundational figure for the Cathedral and the diocese.
