Feast of Saint John the Evangelist (Great Autumn Festival)

The 2025 edition of the Great Autumn Festival of Saint John the Evangelist in San Giovanni la Punta (CT) took place around the penultimate Sunday of September, Sunday, September 21, 2025. The festival followed the traditional pattern: on Saturday, the procession of the relic of the patron saint departed from the Church of San Giuseppe and headed to the Mother Church for the solemn mass; on Sunday, the translation of the statue and the first triumphant exit of Saint John on the wooden fercolo, welcomed by showers of multicolored paper, the ringing of bells, and the applause of the faithful.

There was no shortage of elements that have always characterized the local festival: brass bands accompanying the parade along the town streets, fireworks displays with the town districts' pyrotechnics, and the traditional Cantata in honor of the saint. The procession, spread over several evenings, also reached the newer districts of the Etna municipality, renewing a popular devotion rooted for centuries in the province of Catania.
