FantastikA — Biennale of Fantastic Illustration

The 2024 edition of FantastikA, the seventh since the event's inception, was held on September 21 and 22, 2024, in Dozza with the title "The Shape of the Dragon," also chosen to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Italian Association of Tolkien Studies. Curated by Ivan Cavini and organized by the Dozza Città d'Arte Foundation, it was one of the richest editions ever.

The program unfolded between the Sforza Castle, the Municipal Theater, and the spaces of the village, featuring exhibitions such as Draconis Forma and Mythomorphosis: Dragons and Elves, the "Painted Words" meetings dedicated to Tolkien's characters, illustration and Elvish writing workshops, role-playing sessions, concerts, archery demonstrations, and cosplay activities. The Golden Dragons ceremony honored Loredana Lipperini, Edoardo Rialti, Vittorio Bustaffa, and Sandro Cleuzo for their contributions to fantastic culture in Italy.

The weekend alternated between two days of activities in the castle and village: illustration exhibitions ("Draconis Forma," "Mythomorphosis: Dragons and Elves"), live drawing sessions at the illustrators' tables, "Painted Words" meetings by Ivan Cavini on Tolkien's characters, Elvish writing and fantastic illustration workshops, role-playing sessions, the presentation of the new translation of The Hobbit with Wu Ming 4, and the Golden Dragons ceremony.
