Edition 2025 — Exhibition of Saint Francis
The Exhibition of the Remains of Saint Francis is not a recurring event, but an exceptional and unrepeatable occasion linked to the VIII Centenary of the saint's death (1226-2026). The remains of the Poor Man, housed in the crypt of the Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi (PG), are normally kept hidden from the sight of the faithful.
The relics were scientifically identified in 1818 and recognized by Pope Pius VII in 1820; in 1978, under Paul VI, they underwent a conservation restoration. The 2026 exhibition therefore represents the first time that the faithful can venerate them directly, in a month-long prolonged showing.
