Edition 2025 — Exhibition of Saint Francis

The 2026 Exhibition of the Remains of Saint Francis is an extraordinary and unprecedented event, conceived for the VIII Centenary of the saint's death: it is the first prolonged public exhibition of the Poor Man's relics in Franciscan history, not attributable to an annual recurrence.

The Exhibition of the Remains of Saint Francis is not a recurring event, but an exceptional and unrepeatable occasion linked to the VIII Centenary of the saint's death (1226-2026). The remains of the Poor Man, housed in the crypt of the Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi (PG), are normally kept hidden from the sight of the faithful.

The relics were scientifically identified in 1818 and recognized by Pope Pius VII in 1820; in 1978, under Paul VI, they underwent a conservation restoration. The 2026 exhibition therefore represents the first time that the faithful can venerate them directly, in a month-long prolonged showing.
