Edition 2025 — U Scontru of Cassaro

In 2025, the Holy Week of Cassaro took place from Palm Sunday (April 13) to Easter Monday (April 21). Holy Saturday, April 19, featured the procession of the Madonna searching for her Son and, at midnight, "A Risuscita." On Sunday, April 20, Easter Day, the traditional "U Scontru" at noon on Corso Umberto drew locals and returning emigrants for the festival.

The 2025 edition of the "Simana o Niuru" in Cassaro confirmed the vitality of a centuries-old tradition. On Saturday, April 19, the statue of the Madonna traversed the village streets searching for her Son, before the solemn "A Risuscita" at midnight, when the Risen Christ emerged from behind the altar thanks to the ancient "cattabuni" mechanism. On Sunday, April 20, Easter morning, the Addolorata, carried on the shoulders of local women, reached Corso Umberto: at noon, the emotional "U Scontru" with the Risen Christ took place, accompanied by the falling of the black mantle. The Committees of San Sebastiano and Sant'Antonio Abate, with their white robes and red and green sashes, animated all the celebrations in the heart of the municipality of Cassaro, in the province of Syracuse.
