Edition 2025 — 'A Giunta

In 2025, the Holy Week of Caltagirone renewed its most heartfelt rites: the Passion of Christ along the Santa Maria del Monte Staircase, the Good Friday Procession of the Dead Christ with the Civic Senate pageant, and, on Easter Sunday, the 'A Giunta ritual with the giant papier-mâché statue of Saint Peter and the moving "Spartenza".

The 2025 edition confirmed the vitality of a centuries-old Easter tradition that attracts faithful and visitors every year to the Baroque center of Caltagirone, in the province of Catania.

  • The Passion of Christ with actors and costumed extras between Piazza Municipio and the monumental staircase.
  • The Procession of the Dead Christ and the Sorrowful Virgin Mary on the afternoon of Good Friday, accompanied by the Civic Senate and a brass band.
  • The 'A Giunta ritual on Easter Sunday: the meeting between the Risen Christ and his Mother mediated by Saint Peter, leading to the final "Spartenza" in Piazza Marconi.
