Dining with the Byzantines

The 18th edition of Dining with the Byzantines was held in Crecchio (CH), in Abruzzo, on July 25, 26, and 27, 2025. The streets and squares of the historic center came alive with pageants and re-enactments, including the historical procession dedicated to the deeds of Comes Vitaliano returning from the Battle of Aternum against the Lombards, as well as performances by jesters, minstrels, and street actors.

At the refreshment points set up along the village streets, visitors were able to taste dishes inspired by medieval and Byzantine cuisine — spiced meats, ritual flatbreads, aromatic wines — and visit the Ducal Castle and the Museum of Byzantine and Early Medieval Abruzzo with dedicated guides. A group excursion from Pescara and Chieti was also organized for the evening of Saturday, July 26.
