Dialect theatre season at the Angeletti Theatre, in the heart of the Monti Azzurri
The Dialect Review of Sant'Angelo in Pontano is the winter theatre season that enlivens the small village in the Province of Macerata, in the territory of the Monti Azzurri Mountain Union, part of the Marche Region. The performances are held at the Teatro Nicola Antonio Angeletti, an 19th-century gem reopened after extensive restoration work following the 2016 earthquake, which has now returned to being the cultural heart of the Municipality.
The review was born from the desire to bring audiences back to the theatre and to promote the Marche dialect, understood as a heritage of identity and a social driver. The mayor and organizers have always emphasized the importance of theatre as an opportunity to "be together", in a town where the community recognizes itself around its traditions.
The 2026 edition runs from January to April with four main events at the Angeletti Theatre:
Alongside the dialect review, there is also the Teatro nei Borghi Azzurri (Theatre in the Blue Villages) review, promoted by FITA Marche among the municipalities of Sant'Angelo in Pontano, Penna San Giovanni, and Monte San Martino: in Sant'Angelo, on March 15, the play "La Fijiastra cittadina" by the company Dieci Donne Mamme Matte is scheduled.
The review is not just theatre. The ticket or season pass gives you the right to visit the Permanent Typological Museum of Artist's Nativity Scenes – Cassese Collection, located on the lower floors of the Angeletti Theatre, and a small gastronomic treat is distributed to attendees each evening, following the village's convivial tradition.
Nestled on the hills between the Tenna and Salino valleys, Sant'Angelo in Pontano is a village of ancient origin that preserves a compact historic centre, the castle walls, and the memory of Saint Nicholas of Tolentino, who was born here. The theatre review represents one of the best opportunities to discover the authenticity of this corner of the Monti Azzurri, far from mass tourist circuits, where dialect and theatre continue to be the living language of the community.
The 2026 season opened on Saturday, January 17, at 9:15 PM with "Roba da matti" by the Compagnia Valenti and continued on February 8 with "Moglie ingenua, marito malato!" by Achille Campanile (Nuovo Teatro Piceno), on March 22 with the musical performance "Mar(che)" hosted by Camilla Ruffini, and on April 11 with "Ubu Suite" by Teatro dei Picari of Macerata.
As part of the FITA Teatro nei Borghi Azzurri review, "La Fijiastra cittadina" by the company Dieci Donne Mamme Matte was performed on March 15 at the municipal theatre. Each performance was accompanied by a gastronomic treat and access to the Museum of Artist's Nativity Scenes – Cassese Collection.
Sant'Angelo in Pontano can be reached by car from the SS78 Picena, exiting towards the villages of the Monti Azzurri; the nearest A14 motorway exit is Civitanova Marche, about 45 km away. The nearest train stations are Macerata and Civitanova Marche, connected to the village by local bus lines.
Performances are generally held in the evening (9:15 PM) at the Teatro Nicola Antonio Angeletti. Tickets for individual performances and season passes for the entire review are available, including a visit to the artist's nativity scene museum. For information and reservations, it is advisable to contact the Municipality of Sant'Angelo in Pontano (tel. +39 0733 661602).
