About Sant'Angelo Dialect Review

The Dialect Review of Sant'Angelo in Pontano brings popular theatre back to the stage of the restored Teatro Nicola Antonio Angeletti, in the small village of the Monti Azzurri in the province of Macerata. From January to April, dialect comedies, musical performances, and company theatre liven up the evenings in the village, promoting the Marche dialect and the tradition of theatre as a moment of community gathering. Each performance is accompanied by a small gastronomic treat and the opportunity to visit the artist's nativity scene museum set up in the theatre.

Popular Theatre in the Village of the Monti Azzurri

The Dialect Review of Sant'Angelo in Pontano is the winter theatre season that enlivens the small village in the Province of Macerata, in the territory of the Monti Azzurri Mountain Union, part of the Marche Region. The performances are held at the Teatro Nicola Antonio Angeletti, an 19th-century gem reopened after extensive restoration work following the 2016 earthquake, which has now returned to being the cultural heart of the Municipality.

The review was born from the desire to bring audiences back to the theatre and to promote the Marche dialect, understood as a heritage of identity and a social driver. The mayor and organizers have always emphasized the importance of theatre as an opportunity to "be together", in a town where the community recognizes itself around its traditions.

The 2026 Programme

The 2026 edition runs from January to April with four main events at the Angeletti Theatre:

  • January 17 (9:15 PM) — "Roba da matti", a dialect comedy by the Compagnia Valenti, organizers of the review;
  • February 8 — "Moglie ingenua, marito malato!" by Achille Campanile, staged by the Nuovo Teatro Piceno;
  • March 22 — "Mar(che)", a musical performance with young local talents, hosted by Camilla Ruffini;
  • April 11 — "Ubu Suite" by the Teatro dei Picari of Macerata.

Alongside the dialect review, there is also the Teatro nei Borghi Azzurri (Theatre in the Blue Villages) review, promoted by FITA Marche among the municipalities of Sant'Angelo in Pontano, Penna San Giovanni, and Monte San Martino: in Sant'Angelo, on March 15, the play "La Fijiastra cittadina" by the company Dieci Donne Mamme Matte is scheduled.

An Experience Beyond the Performance

The review is not just theatre. The ticket or season pass gives you the right to visit the Permanent Typological Museum of Artist's Nativity Scenes – Cassese Collection, located on the lower floors of the Angeletti Theatre, and a small gastronomic treat is distributed to attendees each evening, following the village's convivial tradition.

Sant'Angelo in Pontano and the Monti Azzurri

Nestled on the hills between the Tenna and Salino valleys, Sant'Angelo in Pontano is a village of ancient origin that preserves a compact historic centre, the castle walls, and the memory of Saint Nicholas of Tolentino, who was born here. The theatre review represents one of the best opportunities to discover the authenticity of this corner of the Monti Azzurri, far from mass tourist circuits, where dialect and theatre continue to be the living language of the community.
