About Di Corsa a Moricone

Di Corsa a Moricone is a competitive road running race held in Moricone, a village in the Sabina area near Rome. Launched in 2026 by the ASD Atletica Palombara in partnership with the ASD Polisportiva Moricone and supported by the local municipality, the race features a 9.3-kilometer route starting from Via dello Sport, near the municipal sports field. A spring event open to FIDAL and EPS members as well as Runcard holders, designed to blend sport, scenery, and village life.

A new race in the Sabina running calendar

Di Corsa a Moricone is the road race that, since March 2026, has brought competitive running to the streets and countryside of Moricone, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the Lazio region. The event was born from the collaboration between ASD Atletica Palombara, a club from Palombara Sabina with extensive experience in organizing running events, and ASD Polisportiva Moricone, a local sports organization, with the patronage and logistical support of the municipal administration.

The route: 9.3 kilometers between village and countryside

The official distance is 9.3 kilometers, a measurement that places the race in that intermediate range highly appreciated by amateurs: long enough to require careful pacing, yet short enough to remain accessible even to those who do not regularly run half-marathons. The start and finish are set on Via dello Sport, in the area of the municipal sports field, a natural meeting point for athletes, supporters, and spectators.

Moricone is located on the slopes of the Lucretili Mountains, at an altitude of about 400 meters: the track is therefore not a flat course for personal bests, but a rolling route that alternates between the village's urban fabric and more open segments of the Sabina countryside, with views of the Tiber Valley and the surrounding hills. It is precisely this scenic backdrop, along with the village's hospitality, that the organizers wanted to highlight, speaking of ยซa new route, new panoramas, and new emotionsยป.

Who can participate

The event is competitive and open to athletes registered with FIDAL, recognized Sports Promotion Bodies (EPS), and Runcard holders, in accordance with the regulations published by the organizing club. The registration fee is set at 13 euros, with registration management and timing provided by Race Service. The usual general male and female rankings are provided, in addition to category and club rankings.

The village gets involved

  • A community event: the Municipality has granted free use of the sports field parking area, transformed for the occasion into the race headquarters.
  • Safety and traffic: for the race day, the Municipal Operations Center of the Civil Protection is activated, with volunteers engaged in traffic management and assistance along the route.
  • Local volunteers: associations and citizens of Moricone man intersections and refreshment points, as is tradition in the races of the Lazio villages.

Moricone, a village to discover

Beyond the race, Moricone is worth a stop. The historic center preserves its medieval layout with the Orsini-Barberini Castle, historic churches, and alleys overlooking the countryside. The municipal territory is partly included in the Lucretili Mountains Regional Natural Park, a protected area popular with hikers and trail runners, and is located a short distance from Palombara Sabina, Monteflavio, and other towns of the Roman Sabina. Local gastronomy follows the Sabina tradition, with extra virgin olive oil as its signature product: a good reason to extend your day after the finish line.

Why follow it

The first editions are always the most interesting to experience: the route is brand new, the atmosphere is that of a village discovering the event, and the participation remains human-sized. With the support of the Municipality and two sports clubs rooted in the area, Di Corsa a Moricone aims to become a fixed appointment in the spring running calendar of the province of Rome.

Di Corsa a Moricone โ€” edition 2026

The first-ever edition of Di Corsa a Moricone took place on Sunday, March 15, 2026: a 9.3-kilometer competitive road race starting at 10:00 AM from Via dello Sport, in the municipal sports field area. First edition: Moricone enters the running calendar

On March 15, 2026, Moricone hosted a competitive road running race for the first time. The initiative was born from ASD Atletica Palombara, in collaboration with ASD Polisportiva Moricone, who designed a 9.3-kilometer track between the village and the countryside of the Roman Sabina.

Organization and safety

The Municipality granted free use of the sports field parking area, which served as the meeting point, start, and finish. To ensure safety, the Mayor ordered the activation of the Municipal Operations Center of the Civil Protection from 7:00 AM until the end of the event, coordinating traffic, volunteers, and emergency services along the route.

Timing and registration management were handled by Race Service, with general, category, and club rankings.
