Departure of the Castellana di Zia Michelina to Montevergine

The 2025 edition

The 2025 edition of the pilgrimage took place on August 14th, on the eve of the Assumption, as provided for by the Estate Volturarese 2025 program promoted by the municipal administration of Volturara Irpina (province of Avellino, Campania) together with the Pro Loco and local associations.

The calendar described the event as 'the Departure of the Castellana di Zia Michelina towards the Sanctuary of Montevergine, a procession that will pass through five other towns', with the progressive addition of devotees along the way to accompany the image of the Madonna to the Benedictine sanctuary.

The event was part of a Volturara summer dense with activities: the Roots Festival and the celebrations of Saint Anthony of Padua at the end of July, 'Artists in the Street and Street Food Festival' at the beginning of August, and, at the end of the month, the festival of the Madonnina della Piana with a rural procession, music, and tastings of typical products.
