Edition 2025 — Deer Man Rite

During the 2025 Carnival, Castelnuovo al Volturno renewed the Deer Man Rite, the ancestral pantomime of Alto Molise, with the Mask Museum, a parade of traditional masks, and the culminating moment of the rite on the last Sunday of Carnival.

In 2025, Castelnuovo al Volturno once again celebrated its most iconic rite: Gl'Cierv, the Deer Man Rite. The pantomime, which stages the capture of the half-man, half-deer creature, attracted enthusiasts and scholars of popular traditions as every year, drawn by one of the oldest and most intense carnival rites in Italy.

Around the rite, the Mask Museum, exhibitions, concerts, and the parade of masks animated the village in the Mainarde mountains, confirming Castelnuovo al Volturno as the guardian of a unique agro-pastoral heritage in Alto Molise.
