Corpus Domini – Procession with the Civic Senate

On Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 8:00 PM, Caltagirone experienced the solemnity of Corpus Domini. The Eucharistic celebration in the Cathedral Basilica was presided over by Bishop Calogero Peri, with the concelebration of Archbishop Emeritus Michele Pennisi.

At the end of the Mass, the procession wound through the streets of the historic center, from the Cathedral to the Church of Santa Maria di Gesù. Making it solemn was the Civic Senate Historical Pageant, composed of about thirty members in period costumes—mace-bearers, attendants, captain of justice, staff-bearer, halberdiers, drummers, senators, and messengers—accompanied by the "Luigi Sturzo" association's band.
