About Calliope Choir Concert

On the occasion of the feast of the patron saint Paul VI, the Basilica of Concesio hosts the concert by the Calliope Lyric Choir: an evening dedicated to the most famous sacred arias and the most celebrated lyric pieces, from Mozart to Verdi, from Puccini to Rossini. With orchestra, soloists, and conducted by Fabrizio Zanini, the concert is a moment of great music in the heart of the patronal festivities of Concesio, in the province of Brescia.

A Concert for Concesio's Patron Saint

The Concert by the Calliope Lyric Choir is one of the most evocative moments of the patronal feast of Concesio, in the Province of Brescia, dedicated to Saint Paul VI, the pope from Brescia born in Concesio itself. The evening takes place in the Minor Roman Basilica of St. Antoninus the Martyr and St. Paul VI and offers a program of sacred and lyric music performed by choir, orchestra, and soloists.

From Mozart to Verdi

The concert program combines the best-known sacred arias with the most celebrated lyric pieces from the great repertoire, featuring compositions by Beethoven, Donizetti, Fauré, Kodály, Mascagni, Mozart, Puccini, Rossini, and Verdi. The orchestral arrangements are by Adalberto Guida, with introductory notes by Giuliana Poli, in an evening that alternates spirituality with operatic emotion.

Choir, Orchestra, and Soloists

The Calliope Lyric Choir, conducted by Fabrizio Zanini, performs with an orchestra and a quartet of soloists: soprano Federica Cassetti, mezzo-soprano Veronica Delorenzi, tenor Marco Ferrari, and bass Fabrizio Brancaccio. A complete ensemble that brings the intensity of the great sacred and lyric repertoire to the Basilica of Concesio.

Music and Devotion

Sponsored by the Municipality of Concesio, the concert has free admission and is part of the program for the patronal feast of Saint Paul VI, uniting the religious dimension of the celebration with the beauty of great music in one of the symbolic places of the town in Brescia.
