Commemoration of the Portella della Ginestra Massacre

78th Anniversary — "Partisans of Labor"

The 2025 edition, titled "Partisans of Labor," was organized by CGIL Palermo and CGIL Sicily. At 8:30 AM, the commemoration was held at the Piana degli Albanesi cemetery, with the laying of a wreath and the participation of the municipal administration and the Eparchy of Piana.

At 9:30 AM, the gathering took place at the Casa del Popolo, and around 10:00 AM, the procession—led by the "Giuseppe Petta" band of Mezzojuso—departed toward the Portella plateau. At the Sasso di Barbato, after a minute of silence and the reading of the victims' names, speakers included Maria Modica (Piana Labor Chamber), Mario Ridulfo (CGIL Palermo secretary), Gianfranco Pagliarulo (national ANPI president), and Alfio Mannino (General Secretary of CGIL Sicily), with closing remarks by national CGIL secretary Francesca Re David. The event honored the eleven victims of the 1947 massacre, combining memory with the demand for dignified work.
