Edition 2025 — City Nature Challenge Rome

The 2025 edition of the City Nature Challenge confirmed Rome as one of the most active European cities in participatory science: 11,667 observations, 2,075 species identified, and 494 observers involved in the metropolitan area, with a sixth-place finish in Europe for the number of participants. The Bioparco di Villa Borghese hosted its bioblitz on Sunday, April 27, featuring guided nature tours dedicated to urban biodiversity.

Rome sixth in Europe in 2025

In 2025, the City Nature Challenge saw the capital field a particularly large community of enthusiasts. In the metropolitan area of Rome, 11,667 observations were recorded, relating to 2,075 identified species, thanks to the work of 494 observers: numbers that brought Rome to sixth place in Europe and forty-eighth in the world for the number of participants involved.

The Bioparco di Roma, in the Municipality of Rome, Lazio region, participated with a bioblitz open to the public on Sunday, April 27, 2025: guided tours from 10:30 AM to 3:15 PM, lasting about an hour, included in the admission ticket and dedicated to discovering the park's wild fauna, from mallards to squirrels, and from crows to butterflies.
