Great drama at the historic theater of Sant'Elpidio a Mare
Every winter, the Teatro Luigi Cicconi in Sant'Elpidio a Mare, in the heart of the province of Fermo, lights up for its Theater Season: a drama review that from November to April offers six titles on subscription, chosen from the best of Italian theater. It is one of the most anticipated cultural events in the Elpidiense village, organized by the Municipality of Sant'Elpidio a Mare together with AMAT (Marchigiana Association of Theatrical Activities), with the support of the Marche Region and the Ministry of Culture.
The hall that hosts the season is a reason to visit in itself. The Cicconi Theater was built in 1872 based on a design by architect Ireneo Aleandri, the same as the Macerata Sferisterio, who was inspired by the great theaters of Parma and Vicenza. The horseshoe layout, the two tiers of fifteen boxes each, and the historic curtain painted in tempera by Ferdinando Cicconi in 1873—a grand allegory of the illustrious figures of the Marche in science and the arts—make this theater an intimate and evocative space. It is named after Luigi Cicconi, an Elpidiense poet and prose writer who died in 1856.
The programming alternates comedy, civic theater, classical dramaturgy, and musical performances. Over the years, the Cicconi has hosted leading performers of the national scene, from Francesco Pannofino to Cesare Bocci and Michele Placido, alongside young companies and reinterpretations of classics by authors like Eduardo De Filippo and Luigi Pirandello. A proposal designed for a curious audience, capable of combining the appeal of well-known faces from cinema and television with the quality of theatrical writing.
The Theater Season is much more than a series of shows: it is the moment when Sant'Elpidio a Mare and the entire Fermo area come together under the frescoed vault of the Cicconi. The subscription formula builds loyalty among hundreds of spectators each year, while single tickets open the doors to those who want to choose show by show. An experience that intertwines heritage, theatrical tradition, and the cultural life of a Marche village between the hills and the Adriatic coast.
The 2025-2026 Season of the Cicconi Theater in Sant'Elpidio a Mare (FM) presents six subscription shows from November 2025 to April 2026, supported by the Marche Region, the Ministry of Culture, the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Fermo, and Tennacola Spa. A season that alternates commedia dell'arte, civic theater, musical tributes, and great classics, organized by the Municipality together with AMAT. Among the protagonists are Leo Gassmann in his theatrical debut, the irony of Veronica Pivetti, the Neapolitan spirit of Eduardo De Filippo, and the prose debut of Rocío Muñoz Morales.
Romeo and Juliet. Love is a street performer — Stivalaccio Teatro. A commedia dell'arte reinterpretation set in Venice in 1574.
Ubi Maior — with Leo Gassmann and Sabrina Knaflitz, directed by Enrico Maria Lamanna. The passage to adulthood between principles and necessities.
At Least You in the Universe — tribute to Mia Martini with Matilde Facheris, Virginia Zini, and Sandra Zoccolan. Musical and biographical story.
Tell Them Yes by Eduardo De Filippo, with Mario Autore, Anna Ferraioli Ravel, and Domenico Pinelli.
The Mental Inferiority of Women — Veronica Pivetti in a text by Giovanna Gra.
Dangerous Contractions — comedy written and directed by Gabriele Pignotta with Rocío Muñoz Morales and Giorgio Lupano. Closing show of the season.
