The feast of the patron saint Rita in the Sant'Antonio district of Portogruaro
In the heart of Portogruaro, in the Province of Venice, the Sant'Antonio district dedicates a series of celebrations each May to Saint Rita of Cascia, the saint of impossible causes, particularly venerated throughout Italy. The celebrations, organized by the Parish of Saint Rita, intertwine religious tradition with the community life of the neighborhood.
The feast is prepared by a triduum of prayer on the preceding evenings, dedicated to reflection on various themes related to the figure of Saint Rita. On May 22nd, the day of the saint's liturgical commemoration, Mass is celebrated with the traditional blessing of the roses, the quintessential symbol of devotion to Rita, and a solemn Mass led by the parish choir.
The most anticipated moment is the procession, which winds through the neighborhood streets — Savonarola, Galvani, Marconi, Meucci, Ronchi — accompanied by the chanting of Vespers. Afterwards, the blessing of children and young people and a convivial gathering at the parish center strengthen the community bonds.
Animated by the group of Friends of Saint Rita and parish volunteers, the celebrations are much more than a religious observance: they represent the moment when the Sant'Antonio district of Portogruaro celebrates its identity and faith, in an atmosphere that blends solemnity and conviviality.
The 2026 edition of the Celebrations of Saint Rita and Saint Anthony in Portogruaro is spread over several days, from the preparatory triduum to the liturgical feast on May 22nd, culminating on the final Sunday, May 24th, with the procession. The celebrations are overseen by the Parish of Saint Rita with the group of Friends of Saint Rita.
The program alternates moments of prayer, solemn Masses, and community gatherings in the Sant'Antonio district of Portogruaro, in the Province of Venice.
