Edition 2025 — Castrum Novum Revivit

On August 10, 2025, on the night of San Lorenzo, Castrum Novum Revivit transformed the archaeological park of Santa Marinella into a stage under the stars: the Ludi Scaenici brought life back to the Roman theatre after nearly 1,800 years, in front of over a thousand spectators. Costumed re-enactors, guided tours with archaeologists, recitals, and ancient music enlivened the excavations of the ancient Roman colony, with free admission for all.

Castrum Novum Revivit 2025: the Ludi Scaenici of the night of San Lorenzo

The 2025 edition took place on Sunday, August 10, from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM, in the archaeological area of Castrum Novum. The most emotional moment was the return of performances to the Roman theatre, which had remained silent for nearly 1,800 years and was brought to light by recent excavation campaigns.

The audience, over a thousand people, was able to meet the costumed characters of the S.P.Q.R. APS association, discover the customs and flavours of the ancient Roman colony, attend recitals by the group Le Voci and the ancient sounds of the Phonomachoi ensemble, and participate in guided tours led by archaeologists and GATC volunteers. The evening, included in the cultural programme of the Civic Museum Hub of the Municipality of Santa Marinella in collaboration with the Metropolitan City of Rome, also saw the debut of the free Archeobus that connects the archaeological sites of the coast. Free admission.
