Edition 2025 — Castrum Berengari

Castrum Berengari debuts in 2026 as a new event of the Valli di Lanzo Festival dei Saperi. Balangero did not previously have a re-enactment dedicated to its medieval past: the memory of the castrum of Berengario II of Ivrea, cited in documents as early as 1151, constitutes the historical heritage from which this new event comes to life.

The 2026 edition marks the debut of Castrum Berengari: therefore, there are no previous editions of the event. The project was born within the Festival dei Saperi, promoted by the Unione Montana Valli di Lanzo, Ceronda e Casternone, to give a voice to the history of the local villages.

The historical reference is the fortified castle built in Balangero in the 10th century and attributed to Berengario II, Marquess of Ivrea and King of Italy. This medieval legacy, until now told mainly by local studies and archival documents, becomes in 2026 the heart of a public event dedicated to the Balangero community and the Province of Turin.
