Edition 2025 — Carrese of Portocannone

In 2025, the Carrese of Portocannone once again renewed the ancient race of ox-drawn carts on the Vallone delle Canne, in honour of Our Lady of Constantinople. The three teams of Giovani, Giovanotti, and Xhuventjelvet competed on the 3.4 km track, in front of thousands of spectators.

The Carrese 2025 confirmed the extraordinary vitality of one of the oldest and most spectacular traditions of Molise. On the 3.4 km course of the Vallone delle Canne, the carts pulled by pairs of oxen from the three historic teams — Giovani, Giovanotti, and Xhuventjelvet — launched into the race that renews the founding myth of the Arbëreshë village of Portocannone each year. As tradition dictates, the race was followed by the procession of the sacred icon of Our Lady of Constantinople, carried by the winning cart, in a festival that unites faith, competition, and Albanian identity.
