The collective and participatory Carnival of Pavia
CarnevALL is the Carnival of Pavia born with a precise philosophy: to be a collective and participatory celebration, built from the ground up with the residents. The name itself plays on the idea of an "ALL" Carnival (for everyone). Organized by the Municipality of Pavia, the event involves the different neighborhoods of the city in a creative process that culminates in the grand parade.
In the weeks preceding the festival, distributed workshops animate five neighborhoods of Pavia: here residents, guided by artists and facilitators, build floats, masks, and puppets using recycled materials. It is a community effort that transforms the preparation of the Carnival into a shared experience, valuing creativity and reuse.
On the day of the festival, the procession crosses the historic center starting from Piazzale Ghinaglia and reaching the Gardens of the Visconti Castle, along a route that includes Strada Nuova and the iconic Ponte Coperto over the Ticino river. Floats, masks, and colorful groups fill the city streets, in a riot of colors and joy open to families, children, and visitors.
Each year CarnevALL chooses a theme that guides the creativity of the neighborhoods and gives meaning to the celebration, going beyond pure fun to offer a collective reflection. This dimension, which combines popular celebration and community engagement, makes CarnevALL an original event in the Lombardy carnival scene, deeply linked to Pavia's identity.
The 2026 edition of CarnevALL is scheduled for Saturday, February 14 in Pavia. The chosen theme is 'Crazy Idea! Loving Utopias for a Possible Future', which interprets love as a collective force and a practice of care and community building. Between January 17 and February 7, five neighborhoods of the city hosted creative workshops to build floats, masks, and puppets from recycled materials. The afternoon parade starts from Piazzale Ghinaglia and reaches the Gardens of the Visconti Castle, along Strada Nuova and the Ponte Coperto.
