Carneval di Mat — Bormio Carnival

The Carneval di Mat is Bormio's (SO) most cherished Carnival celebration in Alta Valtellina, and it faithfully upholds its ancient spirit every year. The 2025 edition also brought together citizens, masked revellers, and visitors in Piazza del Kuerc for the ritual of overturning authority: the deposition of the Mayor, the coronation of the Podestà dei Matti, and the satirical reading of the Pòsc'tà di Mat.

As tradition dictates, the day concluded with the Sciòlver di Mat, the distribution of the 'poor man's polenta', and games and the greasy pole for children.
