Edition 2025 — Cantè Magg in Valpone

Before the contemporary revival of 2026, the Cantè Magg belonged to the heritage of spring rites in the Roero, which had long remained silent in the area to the left of the Tanaro river. The tradition is rooted in the May quests that once enlivened the countryside between Canale, Valpone, and the neighboring villages, celebrating the fertility of the land and the awakening of nature.

In 2025, the Cantè Magg was not yet held in the form of a public festival that characterized the first contemporary edition of 2026. However, the tradition was already a subject of study and promotion by the Ecomuseo delle Rocche del Roero and local Pro Loco associations, which were committed to recovering the ancient spring rites of the area, from the Cantè Magg to the Cantè j'euv. These quest songs, linked to the peasant world and the cycle of the seasons, represent one of the most precious cultural legacies of the Roero, preserved in the villages around Canale, in the province of Cuneo.
