Edition 2025 — Cantamaggio
On May 1st, 2025, the 'maggianti' of Varese Ligure walked through the historic center of the Borgo Rotondo, singing the ancient songs of good omen of Cantamaggio, a tradition revived in the seventies and linked to the agricultural cults of the Val di Vara.
The 2025 edition of Cantamaggio renewed the collective rite of May 1st in Varese Ligure. The 'maggianti', a spontaneous group of inhabitants of all ages, crossed the alleys of the historic center with songs celebrating the end of winter and the awakening of nature, receiving wine, food, and offerings from families. A living tradition, an expression of the peasant soul of the upper Val di Vara and the deep bond between the Varese community and its village.
