Calenzano 1325 – Siege of the Castle 2025
On Sunday, October 5, 2025, the medieval village of Calenzano Alto hosted a special edition of Calenzano 1325 – Siege of the Castle, dedicated to the 700th anniversary of the siege led by Castruccio Castracani. The day featured the costumed historical pageant, performances by the Alfieri e Musici della Valmarina, ancient crafts at the medieval market, and games for children.
The great novelty of 2025 was the transformation of the siege re-enactment into a living chess match: Piazza San Niccolò became a chessboard on which the two factions vied for control of the castle, combining spectacle, strategy, and historical reconstruction in the heart of Tuscany.
