Calendimaggio of Assisi

The 2025 edition of the Calendimaggio of Assisi confirmed the ancient ritual of the spring contest between the two city factions, the Nobilissima Parte de Sopra and the Magnifica Parte de Sotto. For four days, the city was immersed in the atmosphere of the 14th century, with costume parades, tests of skill and strength, re-enactments of medieval life in torch-lit alleys, and the grand final Canto challenge. The jury, at the end of the competitions, awarded the Palio to the winning faction, according to a tradition that has been renewed in Assisi since 1954.

As tradition dictates, the 2025 Calendimaggio was structured over four days, from the Handing Over of the Keys to the final Canto:

• Handing Over of the Keys and blessing of the banners, with the Calendimaggio Committee's procession to Piazza del Comune
• Madonna Primavera: presentation parades and competitions between the two Factions (crossbowmen, cart pulling race, tug-of-war)
• The Spectacle: Calendimaggio for Children and La Tenzone with fire games
• The Challenge: historical pageants, challenge proclamations, and the evening Canto, with the awarding of the Palio
