The widespread festival of ceramic art in the historic center of Ascoli Piceno
Buongiorno Ceramica! is the widespread festival of Italian ceramic art promoted by AiCC - Associazione Italiana Cittร della Ceramica (Italian Association of Ceramic Cities), which annually involves dozens of Municipalities custodians of this ancient tradition simultaneously. For an entire weekend in May, the cities open workshops, museums, schools, and galleries, with a program of workshops, exhibitions, guided tours, live demonstrations, and tastings. In Ascoli Piceno, in the Marche region, the event brings the creative energy of a city with a centuries-old vocation for maiolica into the heart of the historic center.
Ascoli's ceramics have their roots in the monastic production of the Sant'Angelo Magno monastery and the renowned Paci family dynasty, active between the 18th and 19th centuries, recognizable by the characteristic floral motifs of their maiolica. This heritage is today preserved by the Museum of Ceramic Art, one of the main venues of the event, and told along the streets and squares of the center, where the travertine stone dialogues with the glazed color of the ceramics.
The Ascoli edition unfolds over several days and combines art, well-being, and gastronomy. Among the recurring proposals:
Buongiorno Ceramica! is a free and participatory event, designed to bring the public closer to artisanal work and the cultural identity of the territory. In Ascoli Piceno, it also represents a way to experience the historic center differently, between contemporary art and tradition, in one of the most important Ceramic Cities in the Marche and Italy. An ideal appointment for families, art lovers, and the curious who want to discover the creativity that animates this corner of the Piceno region.
The 12th edition of Buongiorno Ceramica! took place from May 22 to 24, 2026, as part of the national widespread festival promoted by AiCC in about 60 Italian Municipalities. In Ascoli Piceno, the program began on Friday, May 22, at Palazzo Sgariglia with the opening of Lorena Squarcia's solo exhibition, Il giardino delle maioliche (The Maiolica Garden), followed at the Museum of Ceramic Art by a meeting on health and olive oil with LILT and Professor Stefano Papetti, and an aperitif on art maiolica.
On Saturday, May 23, the Museum of Ceramics hosted yoga, taijiquan, and Tibetan singing bowl sessions, while at Pimu, the clay workshops Profili Piceni (Piceno Profiles) were held, and CNA offered an urban tour among the workshops of master ceramists. Sunday, May 24, featured the children's workshop Mastro Vasaio (Master Potter), a toast dedicated to the Pasqualini Collection, and an afternoon at the Brandozzi Collection with ceramics, folk music, and a workshop on stuffed Ascolana olives DOP.
Ascoli Piceno is reachable by car via the Ascoli-Mare highway link, connected to the A14 (San Benedetto del Tronto / Porto d'Ascoli exit). By train, Ascoli Piceno station is connected to the Adriatic line. Activities take place in the historic center, a largely pedestrianized area: it is advisable to park in the car parks surrounding the walled city.
