The Epiphany festival in the heart of the Sibillini Mountains, in Amandola
On January 6th, Epiphany Day, Amandola celebrates the Befana in Piazza Risorgimento, one of the most beloved and attended events in the entire Monti Sibillini area. For over twenty years, this event has beautifully concluded the town's rich Christmas calendar, known as the 'queen of the Sibillini', attracting families, children, and tourists not only from the town but from all the surrounding municipalities.
Amandola's Befana is not just a party for the little ones; it's a collective moment that tells the story of the town's identity. Organized by the Municipality of Amandola together with the Pro Loco, local businesses, and numerous local associations, the day focuses on the values of solidarity and sharing. The Befane who have enlivened the square for over twenty years have become a symbol of the 'Christmas town', guardians of a ritual that is renewed from generation to generation.
The heart of the festival is the spectacular descent of the Befane from the balcony of the town hall: rappelling down ropes above the crowd, the friendly old women reach Piazza Risorgimento to distribute gifts and sweets to all the children present. The crowded square experiences its most magical moment, accompanied by music and the enthusiasm of the little ones.
Among the events that characterize the day is the Birth Prize, with which the municipal administration presents a contribution to the families of newborns residing in Amandola in the past year, a gesture that highlights the town's attention to young families. There is also the final draw of the Receipt Lottery, designed to promote purchases made in downtown shops during the holidays, supporting local small businesses.
The festival concludes with a fireworks display launched from the town hall: the square lights are turned off to make the show even more spectacular, illuminating Amandola's winter sky and bidding farewell to the end of the Christmas holidays. A finale capable of thrilling both young and old, in the town in the Province of Fermo that during Christmas becomes a true 'Christmas town' of the Marche Region.
The Befana in Piazza Risorgimento 2026 in Amandola confirmed its role as the highlight of the Christmas festivities in the Monti Sibillini, as part of the 'Amandola Christmas Town' program initiated by the municipal administration led by Mayor Adolfo Marinangeli and local associations.
The day of January 6th opened in the afternoon with a free screening of an animated film at the 'Vittorio Virgili' Auditorium, followed by activities in the square with music, games, and the highly anticipated descent of the Befane. The Birth Prize for families of newborns and the Receipt Lottery to support local commerce were also confirmed.
The evening concluded, as tradition dictates, with a fireworks display in the darkened square.
