Edition 2025 — Batailles de Reines in Gignod

In spring 2025, the Buthier arena in Gignod hosted one of the elimination rounds of the Regional Batailles de Reines Contest, the peasant tradition where Aosta Valley reines compete by weight categories. With official weighing in the morning, bloodless fights, and awards with the bouquet of flowers, the event brought together breeders and enthusiasts at the foot of the Great St Bernard.

In 2025 too, the Buthier arena in Gignod was the scene of one of the elimination rounds of the Regional Contest of the Batailles de Reines, the most beloved rural tradition of the Aosta Valley. The Aosta Valley breed cows selected by breeders faced each other in bloodless horn clashes, divided into the three weight categories, after the usual official weighing in the morning. The winners, awarded the prestigious bouquet of flowers, earned points towards the regional final, held in autumn in the Croix-Noire arena in Aosta. The day attracted a large crowd to Gignod, confirming the town's strong connection to this ancient peasant practice.
